A "serendipity" story...
Every night since he could talk, my little boy has prayed for the less fortunate. We never prompted him to do this--it just started coming out. Each prayer usually started out with thanks for good things that happened in the day, followed by a few special notes for friends, etc. But the end of the prayer was always the same--"please help the poor children get food, money, shelter and water, but especially water."
One day not so long ago I was thinking about purpose and what life is all about. I called out to whatever might be out there, "How are we supposed to know what to do?!!!" All of a sudden I saw an image of a hungry and helpless child praying for water, followed by the image of my own son's prayers for helpless children to "get food, money and water." I'd heard these prayers for eight years and always thought they were sweet, but never really given them much attention.
Later I started thinking--what if a prayer is sent from a thirsty child over to a child who's parent can make a contribution, or donation that some way helps the thirsty child's prayer come true? I'd heard my son's prayers for years and never really thought much about them until this time. Yet I'd already started this foundation before it occured to me that another child's prayer, given to me through my son, was being answered through my actions.
I believe in prayer, although some may call it intention, or even wishful thinking. Somewhere, someone is listening who can answer your prayers, whatever they may be. The question is, are you listening to the prayers that are being presented to you?
Each of us CAN make a difference--one child at a time. Julie
